Monthly letters about parenthood- a letter from your doula

Once labor becomes more intense and you are closer to delivery, hands on support isn't wanted as much. I will step back during this time and support from a distance as I primarily focus on photos. During your prenatal we will discuss your preferences with the balance of the two, but I have not had a client yet that has felt unsupported or was unhappy with their photos.

Will my photos or support be affected by hiring just one person?

Utah Birth Doulatog SErvices

The short answer is no. I started out as a photographer and then trained as a doula. I have many years perfecting the skillset of balancing the two services.  Labor has a natural rhythm, and I move within it with intention. When you need hands-on support, the camera goes down without hesitation. When you find a moment of rest, it comes back up. Your care always comes first.

You want a small and close knit space that surrounds you, so that you can focus on just yourself and your family. Hiring a doula that specializes in birth photography is just the answer to keep things small.

* Why do I have various price points? I use the The Green Bottle sliding scale model to price my services. This allows me to ensure access to all families and honors the value of my work. My pricing is centered in trust and equity. Credit given to  Alexis J. Cunningfolk for developing this model.

"Eva is simply amazing! She came and photographed my home birth and was very flexible for me to work with. She took the time to understand what I was wanting out of the experience and she was very respectful through it all. Having a stranger in your birth space can be so tricky but she was such a calm and quiet presence. She never made me feel uncomfortable or annoyed. The photos I then got back from her were stunning. She captured the feeling of the entire event beautifully and I am so so grateful that we hired her!"

what Savannah Said:

"Eva was an integral part of bringing my son earth side. She knew when to step in and offer help vs step back and let my husband take over. My labor was 30 hours and I never once wanted her to leave. I not only brought my son safely into this world but I also have the most stunning photos to remember it by"

What Sara said:

"I have had such an amazing experience having Eva as my Doula, she help educate me on my options and was amazing in the labor and delivery room. I was able to be in tune with my body and have a wonderful birthing experience. I imagine it would have went quite a bit differently without her there to help talk me through it. The photos I have received have been absolutely phenomenal as well!"

what Elizabeth said:

"Eva was an integral and powerful part of my pregnancy. I had many fears going into this as it was my first, I was terrified. Eva is such an understanding doula, I felt comfortable with her from the beginning. The prenatal care was wonderful, she provided some amazing reads for my husband and I to understand labor, and prepare for our lives to change. She was comforting as she listened to my fears. I felt listened to the entire time and she was so understanding.
I’ve always been terrified of hospitals so my birth was planned to be at home. Life didn’t work out that way and my baby needed to come into this world via c-section. Eva made my hospital stay comfortable, keeping me hydrated and with snacks, which was SO needed with my husband being busy tending to the baby and catching up on rest. She took beautiful photos that I will treasure forever and was never in the way whatsoever. Her postnatal care was so sweet and understanding as well, and she gave an AMAZING foot rub.
Eva was an amazing part of my birth team and I recommend her one hundred percent!"

what the lopez family said:

"I surrender to the process of birth, it brings my baby to me" I was safe and surrounded by love from my partner and baby. Suddenly, that process was interrupted when I was ushered to the hospital bed. With what felt like the last of my energy,

I will occasionally make suggestions and help them remain grounded, your partner will remain your number one support.
I will be there guiding, watching, supporting, and offering redirection if needed.

My rooted belief is that the birth space should be centered in the family. As a doula, I am assuring that I nurture that space and prioritize the two of you getting ready to meet your newest addition.
While I make suggestions and share recommendations, the priority will be allowing your body to naturally trust itself and your intuition. This also applies to your partner, as they know you the best of anyone in your birth team.

"I surrender to the process of birth, it brings my baby to me" I was safe and surrounded by love from my partner and baby. Suddenly, that process was interrupted when I was ushered to the hospital bed. With what felt like the last of my energy,

My experience influenced my photography and support methods. I am intentional with my camera and support. My priority will always be to help mothers/birthing people create the atmosphere of love to help bond with their baby and partner- uninterrupted. When you look back your photos, I hope you see the divine power of birth comes within you. Your contractions, presence, and force every experience, found within you. This is the story and memory that you are creating with your partner & your baby.

"I surrender to the process of birth, it brings my baby to me" was an affirmation my doula repeated to me during labor. There was a healing energy that surrounded me in labor. My life partner held me, I would not let him leave my side. His embrace is what grounded me. I was safe and surrounded by love. Suddenly, that process was interrupted when the hospital staff ushered me to the hospital bed, instructing me through every following stage.

"Quote or something to read."

There is not one specific way "the best birth" would look like. As a parent, you intuitively know what your ideal birth looks like for you. Creating and communicating your birth preferences help your team understand how they can best support your ideal birth. Not only should your birth team be on board with your birth preferences and goals, but your location should too. The environment of a home birth is very different from a hospital, and your goals, values, and ideologies might be better supported in one location more than the other.
